Ngern Tid Lor Supports the “Kamlangjai” Project under the Royal Initiative of HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha to Create Opportunities for Prisoners
Ngern Tid Lor has been supporting the “Kamlangjai” project under the initiative of HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha to create opportunities for prisoners.

Ngern Tid Lor, a leader in full vehicle title loan services and a non-life insurance broker, has supported the “Kamlangjai” project under the royal initiative of HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha to create opportunities for prisoners in order to keep their lives rolling forward through three main activities: 1) financial literacy for career development, 2) career development loans, and 3) prisoner craft product support.

As Mr. Piyasak Ukritnukun, Managing Director of Ngern Tid Lor, said: “Supporting the   ‘Kamlangjai’ project under the royal initiative of HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha is part of our 'Financial Knowledge to Communities for Life Rolls Forward' Project initiated in 2015. The project aims to provide basic financial planning and management knowledge, which is one of the life skills necessary for enhancing long-term quality of life, low-income, and self-employed people who earn irregular income and lack financial planning skills, which can lead to debt and informal debt problems.”

“As for the basic financial literacy for the career development program under the “Kamlangjai Project,” the Ngern Tid Lor team has implemented a teaching experiment for prisoners at the Khao Rakam Temporary Prison in Trat and conducted a survey in prisons in Rayong and Chanthaburi in February to better understand the needs of prisoners and develop activity-based learning courses to make financial learning fun and easy to understand,” said Mr. Piyasak.

This financial literacy program is intended to help prisoners understand various types of costs, to calculate and reduce costs, to increase profit, write a business plan, and to manage personal spending in order to meet their income and savings goal.

The training comprises two main parts: The first  is a one-day course for prisoners. The second part is the two-day “Train the Trainer” course for prison guards and volunteer probation officers so that they can pass on their financial knowledge and provide basic advice to prisoners. This year, we have implemented a pilot project at the Khao Rakam Temporary Prison in Trat province and Khae Noi Temporary Prison in Phetchabun province. Afterwards, the team will follow up the project results to evaluate and improve the courses.

In addition to financial knowledge for career development, career funding is important. Since a prison history may impact the ability to access a source of funding, we create funding opportunities by offering career development loans for use as initial capital to ex-prisoners who have their own career plans.

As for prisoner handicraft product support, we plan to purchase products from prisoners for use in the company’s various activities. This will promote and publicize prisoner handicrafts to a wider circle.

Ngern Tid Lor, as a vehicle title loan service provider, is determined to create financial opportunities for low-income and self-employed people to access fair and transparent sources of funding. We initiated a project to provide financial literacy to vendors in 2012. This project was further developed into the “Financial Knowledge to Communities for Life Rolls Forward” in 2015 to provide basic financial, income, and expense management, as well as savings for investment knowledge. It also teaches low-income and self-employed people, vendors, and factory workers across the country how to use technology to make financial transactions in order to reduce costs. The project is open for Ngern Tid Lor’s employees to participate in as volunteers so that they can experience community ways of life and understand the importance of creating financial opportunities for customers.
